Refresh & Repair Your Skin

With LimeLight™ Intense Pulsed Light, CoolGlide Vascular Laser and our new state-of-the-art Candela ATV Laser for brown spots.

Sun Damage on the Upper ChestAs time goes on, many of us notice brown spots and freckles on the backs of our hands and other sun exposed areas like the upper chest and face. This can become a cosmetic problem – an obvious sign of premature aging of the skin. In other cases people develop broken blood vessels, in particular on the nose, face and upper chest. Some people have both brown discoloration and broken blood vessels. These problems are made worse by smoking, sun exposure, and also by conditions like rosacea.

The care of patients who have rosacea and/ or sun damage is an important part of Dr. Smith’s practice. Dr. Smith and his staff have performed over 2,800 Intense Pulsed Light (“IPL”) treatments and over 6,100 CoolGlide™ Vascular laser treatments since 2001. The LimeLight™ IPL allows us to choose from three different spectra of light, each custom designed to treat specific problems. Our CoolGlide™ 1064 laser uses a wavelength of infrared light which allows us to effectively treat a wide variety of troublesome hemangiomas and unsightly broken blood vessels on the face and other parts of the body.

Fortunately redness, “broken veins” and brown spots respond well to treatment. After examining your skin and taking your history Dr. Smith can advise you about the use of lasers and light sources to repair your skin, give you advice about simple things you can do to keep your skin in good condition, and prescribe medications if necessary.

“It is possible to greatly improve and repair your appearance using safe, proven treatments.” – Dr. Kevin C. Smith – MD FRCPC

Your face, neck and/or chest can be treated with LimeLight™ Intense Pulsed Light to reduce redness and brown spots and discoloration. During the same visit CoolGlide™ Vascular laser and/or Candela ATV laser for brown spots can also be done. Each treatment session for either the face, neck or chest (even when multiple devices are used) usually costs $250-$350, depending on how extensive and complicated the treatment is. Most patients enjoy visible improvement after their first treatment.

You will usually be somewhat pink immediately after being treated, and your brown spots may become somewhat darker after treatment before they fade over the next week or two. Broken veins on the face tend to improve very rapidly, diminishing over several days after treatment. Bruising and swelling are very seldom a problem. Most patients return to work the same day or the day after treatment. You can apply makeup as soon as your treatment is finished.

You can easily maintain the improvements in your appearance by protecting yourself from the sun, avoiding smoking, and controlling conditions like rosacea.
